Two more Sammy Sosa cards

My goal is to get all of the 1990 Sammy Sosa cards and below in a graded format. However, some of the cards don’t seem to have any graded options for sale or they are way too expensive. This has forced me to buy raw cards for a few of them which is ok for now. I’d rather have the card ungraded than not have it at all! I can always send in the raw cards for grading down the road.

The first card is the 1990 Baseball Card Magazine #49 White Sox Rookie Stars with Sammy Sosa and Robin Ventura. I didn’t even know this card existed until a few weeks ago when looking at a few Sosa checklists. A quick look on eBay and I found one for $3.70 shipped so I went for it.

When I got it, it came along with 2 other Rookie Stars. At first I thought the seller gave me another person’s order but I confirmed that he sent the extras for me. Nice!

The Andy Benes / Steve Avery card has been spoken for. However the Todd Zeile / Alex Cole card is still available if anyone wants it. Contact me here or send me a message on Twitter (@cubsfanstan) if you’re interested.

The other card I recently picked up is the 1990 Coca Cola Sammy Sosa card. I noticed this card is slightly wider than normal baseball cards as it wouldn’t fit in any other sleeve I had except the one it came in.

This puts me at 226 unique Sammy Sosa cards. Wowsers!

eBay – 1990 Donruss and Score Sammy Sosa RC

Today’s goodies in the mail came a day early according to USPS tracking. I picked up 1990 Donruss and 1990 Score Sammy Sosa rookie cards. Both of them are graded PSA 9 which is inline with my other Sosa cards. This puts me at 75% now on the PSA Sammy Sosa rookie set. The Fleer and Topps should be here next week and I can’t wait to share the deal I snagged for those cards!

1990 Donruss Sammy Sosa #489 RC PSA 9
1990 Score Sammy Sosa #558 RC PSA 9

eBay – 1990 Leaf Sammy Sosa RC

I’m getting closer to completing my PSA graded Sammy Sosa rookie card set. I found a PSA 9 Leaf card on eBay for $10 w/free shipping. That was the limit I was shooting for so I pulled the trigger. It was scheduled to be delivered today and despite getting the USPS alert for it being delivered, it was not in the mailbox.

I immediately knew the mail carrier had accidentally put it in the wrong mailbox. I checked the USPS website and they don’t allow a missing mail complaint until 7 business days after the item shipped. Now it was up to my neighbors to do the right thing and deliver the package to me or at least give it back to USPS.

While eating dinner this evening, I heard a knock on the door. My next door neighbor had found the package in his mailbox and returned it to me unopened. Awesome!

This card puts me at 50% in the PSA Sosa rookie card set. The rest have been ordered and I’m anxiously awaiting their arrival by the end of the month.
